In a press release Thursday, Ohio gubernatorial candidate and former congressman Jim Renacci made it clear that he stands with former President Donald J. Trump after President Joe Biden’s disparaging remarks.
“It’s a shame that Joe Biden is using this day to divide Americans, distract from his disastrously failed presidency, and take cheap shots at President Trump. The liberal media may eat it up, but Ohioans, who voted against Joe Biden and for President Trump in the biggest landslide in our state in over thirty years, see right through it,” Renacci said in a press release on the anniversary of the mostly peaceful protests at the Capitol.
“Ohioans aren’t paying attention to the fake spectacle the DC Democrats are putting on TV,” he continued. “They would rather talk about the open border flowing with drugs and crime, uncontrollable COVID, unaffordable gas prices, and the un-American surrender in Afghanistan.”
He slammed Democrats for their “obsession with January 6th” and said that his campaign and supporters stand with Trump “today and every day.”
Renacci is squaring off with incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine (R) in this year’s gubernatorial primary.
Biden addressed the nation on Thursday, and continued to further the narrative that the events at the Capitol in early January of 2021 were an attempt to overthrow American democracy.
To date, no one involved in the incident has been charged with sedition, or any crime related to the alleged “insurrection.” Most defendants have been charged with crimes related to trespassing, though some have been charged with a felony – obstructing an official proceeding – a crime for which no American had ever been charged before the protest.
“We must be absolutely clear about what is true and what is a lie, and here’s the truth: The former president of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election,” Biden said in his speech. “He’s done so because he values power over principle. Because he sees his own interest is more important than his country’s interest and America’s interest, and because his bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy or our Constitution.”
He blamed Trump for the storming of the Capitol building, though there is no evidence to suggest that Trump directed the protestors to trespass on Capitol grounds.
